The Collaborative organized Training Institutes to disseminate information on the Community Model to the public. The Institute will first be offered in early 2005 and will be open to Southern California mental health, substance abuse, and homeless agencies. The Collaborative hopes to continue offering the Training Institutes on a regular basis. Please contact Shelter Partnership for upcoming Training Institute information.

Shannon Murray, Deputy Director of Lamp Community, leads discussion during the January 2005 Community Model Training Institutes held in Santa Monica, CA.
The Community Model Training Institute curriculum encourages discussion and participation among attendees.

The purpose of the Training Institutes is to provide interested and highly motivated community-based agencies’ key staff with the in-depth information needed in order to create a Community Model. Each Institute will accommodate up to 30 participants from 10 to 15 organizations. The Institute will involve classroom workshops focusing on philosophy and values, empowerment, advocacy and siting issues, and housing program implementation. Training Institutes held in the Los Angeles area will involve site visits at programs operated by Lamp Community and OPCC. Training will include information from the Replication Manual presented in a highly interactive style, involving humor, performance, and art. Consumers will share life experiences and facilitate discussion on strategies that encourage change in their lives.
